A global study conducted by the Pew Research Center revealed that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is being met with more concern than excitement worldwide. According to the results, most countries view AI technology as a cause for concern rather than an exciting development.
Countries Most Feared by AI
An average of 43 percent of global respondents expressed both concern and curiosity about AI. However, a significant 34 percent of respondents expressed clear concern about this technology. Only 16 percent viewed AI as a positive development.

By country, the United States, Italy, Australia, Brazil, and Greece are the most prevalent countries, in that order. In these countries, nearly half of the adult population is more concerned about the technology than excited about it. According to the study, half of Americans are fearful about the future of AI. Italy follows the United States with a similar level of concern.
The results in Turkey, however, differ from the global average. 26 percent of respondents in Turkey expressed concern about AI. This rate lags behind countries like the US and Italy.
35 percent of Turkish respondents expressed both anxiety and excitement, while 19 percent expressed no anxiety but were very excited. Only 10 percent expressed pure excitement about AI.
This rate drops to 9 percent in Canada. South Korea, on the other hand, is among the countries where more people are excited than afraid of AI. However, in no country included in the study did a majority of the adult population describe AI as “exciting.”
The research also showed a strong correlation between income and education level and AI awareness. Those living in high-income countries are more aware of AI, while those with lower education levels are more fearful of this technology. A large majority of respondents also reported being unsure whether governments will be able to adequately regulate AI.
