New details have leaked regarding Apple’s affordable MacBook project, which has generated excitement in the tech world. Expected to be released in 2026, this new model is notable for its budget-friendly price, but the processor it will use raises serious questions about performance.
Will the Affordable MacBook Disappoint in Terms of Performance?
According to the latest information from the industry, the prototypes Apple is testing use the A15 Bionic chip, familiar from the iPhone 13 series. This means the new MacBook may lag far behind other Macs with current M-series processors. It may not deliver the expected performance, especially for demanding applications and multitasking.

Leaks indicate that the device’s codename is “mac14p” and that it houses a modified version of the A15 chip called “H14P.” This suggests Apple is opting for an older generation processor to reduce costs. However, this strategy could negatively impact the power and fluidity experience users expect from a “MacBook.”
Despite performance concerns, the affordable model is expected to have a modern design. Rumors suggest the device will feature a 12.9-inch screen in a chassis similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air. It’s also expected to come with sufficient RAM to run Apple’s AI features, Apple Intelligence.
However, it has also emerged that Apple is testing a more powerful MacBook model with the A18 Pro chip. This model is expected to be in a higher price segment, completely separate from the budget-friendly series.
