YouTube is introducing a significant design change. The platform has started rolling out its redesigned video player for the web version, which has been in testing since April. So, what does the new YouTube video player look like? Here are the details.
YouTube’s Video Player Is Changing: Here’s the New Design
According to screenshots shared on platforms like Reddit, the Play and Pause buttons — along with the video duration — now appear in individual bubbles in the new video player.

The remaining buttons are grouped into a separate bubble, giving the interface a different layout. The volume control button, which was previously located at the bottom left, has now been moved to the right. In the current design, all buttons are accessible in a single horizontal line. In short, the new layout gives the player a more modern look.
This design was first spotted by a small group of users back in April 2025 and was thought to be just a test at the time. However, as more users are now seeing the new interface, it’s safe to say that YouTube has begun rolling it out more broadly. Still, the change isn’t visible across all accounts just yet.
In fact, based on the checks we performed using the very device this content was written on, we can confirm that the old design is still in place.
As with every YouTube interface update, this change hasn’t been well-received by everyone. Some users argue that the new layout looks more cluttered and disrupts the familiar viewing experience.
