Microsoft has released its latest optional update for its popular operating system, Windows 10. This update, released just before the end of support, puts the final technical touches on the operating system.
Windows 10 is nearing its end
The preview package, KB5066198, is being rolled out for the 22H2 version of Windows 10 and brings it up to version 19045.6396. This update fixes several critical bugs in addition to security patches.

The issues addressed in the released “farewell update” are clearly listed. This includes addressing connection issues with file shares over the SMBv1 protocol that users have been experiencing recently.
Furthermore, the issue affecting the deployment of Windows 10 22H2 via Windows Autopilot has been resolved. Users will no longer encounter unexpected User Account Control (UAC) pop-ups when installing applications.
Additionally, this package also fixes an issue that caused delays and performance degradation in audio and video streams over NDI. With these fixes, Microsoft has put the finishing touches on its iconic operating system.
Because this package is an optional update, it will not be downloaded automatically. To install the update, users must go to Windows Update in Settings, check for updates, and click the “Download and install” option that appears.
This move by Microsoft symbolizes a major upcoming change. Official support for Windows 10 will officially end on October 14, 2025. After this date, the system will no longer receive any new updates, including security patches.
