Twitter is undoubtedly one of the social media applications that have remained in the spotlight in recent times. After being acquired by Elon Musk, the platform has undergone a significant transformation. Considering the recent developments, it won’t be easy for Twitter, especially with Meta preparing to launch a new social media platform that is expected to be a competitor. Today, the first images of this application have emerged. Here are the details!
Meta’s new social media app revealed for the first time
During Meta’s internal meeting yesterday, a preview of the social media platform with the codename Project 92 was shown for the first time. Looking at the shared images, the new platform indeed gives off a Twitter vibe. It will be primarily based on Instagram and will be supported by the decentralized social media protocol called ActivityPub.
According to Chris Cox, the Chief Product Officer at Meta, Project 92 is a direct response to Twitter. The development of the application reportedly began in January, and Meta plans to release the platform for general use as soon as possible.
Currently, it is unclear what name the social media application with the codename Project 92 will be launched under. However, there are rumors that the name “Threads” is being considered, and the platform may be named accordingly. Furthermore, according to Cox, efforts are underway to include some famous personalities like DJ Slime as early users during the development process, and there are even ongoing efforts to involve names like Oprah and the Dalai Lama among them.
