Google is preparing to say goodbye to the Google Assistant, which has been used in the Android ecosystem for a long time. As of July 7, 2025, Gemini will replace the Assistant on Android devices. The new system offers more control to the user, while drawing attention with its ability to perform basic tasks even when privacy settings are turned off.
Google Assistant is discontinuing
With the integration of Gemini, users will be able to directly assign tasks such as making phone calls, sending messages, communicating via WhatsApp or setting a timer to this artificial intelligence system.

In the previous system, Application Activity had to be open for similar operations. This requirement is eliminated with the new regulation. Even if users refuse the use of their voice data for the purpose of developing Google products, they will be able to perform basic operations via Gemini.
In the statement made by Google, it was stated that Gemini’s application connections can be disabled at any time. In addition, when the user closes App Activity, the conversations made will not be used for training AI models and will not appear in the activity history. However, it was shared that these conversations will be stored for 72 hours for security reasons.
The new system makes voice command functions on Android devices more comprehensive and flexible with AI integration. Google plans to complete this step by the end of 2025. The transition is expected to redefine the user experience on the Android platform. So what do you think about this? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
