Apple is reportedly preparing its most extensive camera upgrade to date for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. A new report from MacRumors reveals that the Pro lineup will introduce several major camera improvements designed to elevate the user experience to a new level.
Powerful Zoom and Pro-Level Camera Tools
One of the standout additions is a redesigned telephoto lens that will support up to 8x optical zoom — a noticeable jump from the 5x zoom available on the current iPhone 16 Pro Max. This enhancement is expected to give users much more flexibility when capturing distant subjects.

Apple is also said to be working on a dedicated professional camera app, packed with advanced photo and video tools. The app aims to rival third-party offerings like Halide and FiLMiC Pro, targeting users who demand more control over their mobile photography and cinematography.
It’s still unclear whether this new app will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro series or made available on older models as well. Another possibility is that Apple may simply introduce a major update to its existing Final Cut Camera app instead of launching a separate one.
The report also mentions a potential second camera control button on the top edge of the phone. However, given Apple’s growing interest in buttonless device designs — and mixed feedback on the current camera button — this addition remains uncertain.
Beyond camera upgrades, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to come in a new copper-like color option and feature a redesigned rear Apple logo that’s centered horizontally. Apple is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September.
