Apple may significantly change the RAM capacity of the iPhone 18, which it will release in 2026. New reports indicate that the standard iPhone 18 model will be equipped with 12GB of RAM, bringing it to the same memory capacity as the Pro models.
The iPhone 18 will have 12GB of RAM
According to reports, Apple has asked Samsung to increase its supply of LPDDR5X memory chips. Samsung only produces these high-speed memory modules in 12GB and 16GB sizes, increasing the likelihood that the standard iPhone 18 will also launch with 12GB.

For comparison, the 2025 iPhone 17 is expected to come with 8GB of RAM. Apple used 12GB in the Pro and Air versions of the iPhone 17 series to separate them. However, the upgrade to 12GB in the standard iPhone 18 will close this gap.
Reason: AI and multitasking
This RAM increase will ensure similar performance for multitasking and AI features across all models. The iPhone 18 series is also planned to feature 6-channel LPDDR5X memory, which offers higher bandwidth. This upgrade will make everyday performance smoother.
While Samsung remains a key supplier, Apple is reportedly in talks with SK Hynix and Micron for additional supplies. Using the same capacity across all models could simplify production for Apple. This plan aligns with Apple’s goal of delivering faster and more capable devices by 2026.
