Apple has officially placed the Apple Watch Series 1, released in 2016, on its obsolete product list. With this decision, hardware repair and replacement parts support for the device has ended worldwide. The company announced this change with an update to its obsolete product list.
Apple Watch Series 1 is obsolete
Apple defines obsolete products as devices that are more than seven years old after their last sale. Models in this category are not supported by Apple’s authorized service providers. Therefore, technical service providers cannot order parts for these devices, and they cannot address hardware-related issues.

The Apple Watch Series 1 was introduced as an improved version of the original Apple Watch. Released alongside the Apple Watch Series 2, the device featured a faster S1P processor compared to the original model. Visually similar to its predecessor, this model was positioned as an affordable alternative.
With Apple’s announcement, other Apple Watch models, in addition to the Series 1, were also placed on the obsolete product list. The list has been updated as follows:
- Apple Watch (1st generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Edition (1st generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Hermès (1st generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Series 1, Aluminum (2nd generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Series 2, Aluminum (2nd generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Series 2, Stainless Steel (2nd generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Sport (1st generation), 38/42 mm
- Apple Watch Stainless Steel (1st generation), 38/42 mm
This decision for the Apple Watch Series 1 means that users will be completely cut off from hardware support after software support. Apple had previously suspended software updates for this model. Last compatible with watchOS 6, the device has been unable to receive new versions of watchOS for the past few years.
In accordance with Apple’s support policy, each model receives technical support for an average of five to seven years after release. After this period, the device is classified as vintage. Once it’s designated as discontinued, service ends completely.
