Spending 2024 with important steps to develop and renew its applications, Google started 2025 with a significant innovation for Google Messages, one of the most used instant messaging applications. Messages users have been waiting for quite a long time and a feature that was previously included in the application has been added again. Here are the details and what you need to know…
It is possible to customise your own profile with Google Messages
Google has reactivated the profile sharing feature in the Messages app, allowing users to set custom names and photos for contacts saved on their personal devices. This feature was removed in an update last year, causing users to automatically change their names and photos. However, Google took this feedback into account and reactivated the customisation option.
Users can take advantage of this feature by clicking on a person’s name or photo in Google Messages and then coming to the ‘Details’ tab. In this tab, it has been made possible to change the profile photo shared by the person or to set a custom avatar. The feature works in a similar way to Apple’s Contact Cards feature on the iPhone and is considered as part of Google’s effort to support RCS technology.
This innovation, which Google has implemented taking into account user feedback, makes the Messages application more customisable. What do you think about this new feature? Does this move of Google meet the expectations of users? Don’t forget to share your opinions in the comments!
