Apple continues preparations for its new mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro (M5), expected to be released soon. However, new information suggests that some existing accessories will not be fully compatible with the new model. The Developer Strap, specifically the Developer Strap with a USB-C port used by developers, will offer limited features with the new Vision Pro (M5).

New Developer Strap Coming for the Apple Vision Pro (M5): Old Model Incompatible

This incompatibility was discovered thanks to code from the latest developer beta. Experts reviewed the software code, which included a warning stating “Limited Developer Strap Connected.” The code also included the statement, “The Developer Strap attached to the Apple Vision Pro is not fully supported; functionality may be limited.” This suggests Apple is preparing an updated Developer Strap for the new Vision Pro (M5).

In addition to the code strings, a new icon file for the developer strap was also found in the beta. This new image is considered further evidence that an updated version, different from the current accessory, is on the way. Apple is expected to clarify the limitations between the old and new straps when it launches the new accessory.

The Developer Strap was introduced with the first Vision Pro model. According to Apple, this accessory was specifically designed to “accelerate the development of graphics-intensive apps and games.” Priced at $299, this strap replaced the device’s standard right audio strap and was sold exclusively to registered developers through the Apple Developer website.

The new Apple Vision Pro (M5) is expected to launch on Wednesday, October 22nd. Last year, Apple released the Developer Strap the same day the Vision Pro went on sale. According to reports, the existing strap is currently out of stock. Sales are scheduled to resume on October 22nd, the same day as the new Vision Pro launch. This strengthens the expectation that the updated strap will also be included with the new device.
