BMW is preparing to launch its new model, the iX3, which will intensify competition in the electric SUV segment. Initial technical data released by the company’s CEO, Oliver Zipse, reveals that the next-generation iX3 will be one of the most energy-efficient models in its class. Equipped with the all-new Gen6 powertrain, the vehicle will offer a range of up to 800 kilometers on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle.
The New BMW iX3 Will Stand Out with Its Efficiency
The new iX3 is one of the first models developed on BMW’s Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform. Featuring a dual-motor structure and a 108 kWh battery, the SUV has a curb weight of approximately 2,285 kg.

Despite these figures, the vehicle is reported to consume only 15 kWh of energy per 100 kilometers. This figure surpasses even models that stand out with their high efficiency, such as the Tesla Model Y.
The increased efficiency stems not only from the engine system but also from innovations in the vehicle’s battery and power electronics infrastructure. BMW uses next-generation 4695-type cylindrical cells in this model. These cells offer 20 percent more energy density than the previous generation.
Furthermore, new technologies such as the silicon carbide-based inverter and externally excited synchronous motor (EESM) significantly reduce energy losses. The company states that the Gen6 powertrain has reduced energy loss by 40 percent, total system weight by 10 percent, and production costs by 20 percent compared to the previous generation.
The 800V electrical architecture in the new iX3 also offers a significant advantage in terms of fast charging. With charging support up to 400 kW, the vehicle can gain a range of up to 350 kilometers in just 10 minutes. This means a significant improvement that will significantly reduce charging times on long journeys.
The model will be officially unveiled next month at the Munich Motor Show. Mercedes’ next-generation electric GLC will also be on display at the show. However, in light of the announced technical data, it seems certain that the BMW iX3 will stand out as a model that redefines standards in terms of efficiency.
