A significant claim has been made about Apple’s professional desktop computer lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has no plans to release a new Mac Pro anytime soon. The report states that the company has “largely discarded” that model.
Mac Studio is the priority over the new Mac Pro
The Mac Pro was last updated with the M2 Ultra chip in 2023. However, Gurman emphasizes that Apple’s strategy won’t change anytime soon. It appears the company has stopped working on the M4 Ultra chip, and therefore the model expected to use that chip has also been canceled.

This means that Apple’s next high-end chip, the M5 Ultra, is currently targeted solely for the Mac Studio. Reports suggest this development suggests the Mac Pro won’t receive a significant update until 2026.
Internal opinions also point to this. Gurman writes that, based on what he hears from within the company, Apple has largely discarded the Mac Pro. The general consensus within the company is that Mac Studio now represents both the present and the future of Apple’s professional desktop strategy.
Given the current landscape, it’s clear that Mac Studio makes the most sense for users who want the most powerful Mac possible.
