MG introduced its renewed MG4 electric hatchback model at an event held in China. It was announced that the model will go on sale on September 5, 2025, and pre-orders will start on August 5. The new MG4 has larger dimensions compared to its previous generation. The vehicle’s length is 4,395 mm, width is 1,842 mm, height is 1,551 mm and the wheelbase is 2,750 mm.
The new MG4 will come with a semi-solid-state battery
The 120 kW permanent magnet electric motor positioned at the rear axle enables the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The model is powered by an LFP battery pack provided by Rept Battery Energy. Battery capacity and range values have not yet been announced.

MG’s China marketing director Chen Cui said that the model could be the first mass-produced vehicle with semi-solid-state battery technology. The statement is not official, but if this technology becomes standard in the MG4, it could bring about a significant change in the segment.
Semi-solid state batteries offer higher energy density, greater safety and longer life compared to traditional LFP technology. This development has the potential to change the balance in the price-performance focused electric vehicle segment.
Inside the vehicle, there is a new generation smart cockpit system developed in partnership with Oppo. This system supports features such as mirroring the smartphone screen to the vehicle, voice command control and interaction with hand gestures. The system, which is fully compatible with Oppo as well as Huawei and Apple devices, also offers new solutions for updating and managing in-car applications.
The renewed MG4 in terms of design draws attention with details such as the closed front grille structure, the arrow-shaped rear stop lamps first seen in the MG Cyberster model and the LED light strip extending from end to end. The traditional door handles and 17-inch alloy wheels are preserved. The charging port is located on the left front fender. The vehicle is built on the Nebula EV platform developed by SAIC.
Although the MG4 has achieved limited sales success in the Chinese market, it has reached significant figures on a global scale. In the first quarter of 2025, MG Motor Europe sold 78,505 vehicles, an increase of 33.5%. It is stated that the MG4 played an important role in this increase. In the United Kingdom alone, 24,641 MGs were sold in the first three months of the year. The total sales figure of the MG4 exceeded 40 thousand.
MG plans to introduce 13 new electric models globally in the next two years. This expansion strategy is supported by an investment of approximately $14 billion. The MG4 will continue to play a key role in the brand’s growth targets, especially in regions where demand for compact electric vehicles is rapidly increasing, such as Europe, India and Southeast Asia.
