Volkswagen has begun testing the ninth generation of its legendary Golf. Motor.es website spotted the prototype on the roads of Southern Europe. This new model is hidden under the body of the current Golf GTE. The vehicle, still in its early stages, is being tested without camouflage. The camouflage will be applied once the new design body panels are in use. The vehicle is expected to be unveiled in 2027.
The next-generation Volkswagen Golf is coming
The Golf will not be an all-electric car. Volkswagen will primarily utilize mild hybrid systems in this next-generation model. Full hybrid versions, which combine an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, will also be available. Some of these hybrid systems are based on the principles used in the next-generation Volkswagen T-Roc.

Volkswagen will significantly modernize the model to further solidify its position in the European market. The company plans to launch another all-electric model positioned in the same segment. However, this vehicle will be launched as a standalone and separate model.
The published photos do not yet fully reveal the vehicle’s design details. For now, the prototype only conceals the new platform beneath the body of the current Golf GTE. This suggests that Volkswagen is keeping the next-generation Golf’s design under wraps for now.
In later testing phases, camouflaged images will emerge as the vehicle’s new exterior appearance becomes more apparent. This will provide clearer insights into the new Golf’s exterior lines and headlight designs.
