Microsoft’s latest security update for Windows 11 has left users struggling. This update, KB5063878, is causing SSD and HDD failures on some computers. Initially, the update caused installation issues with error code 0x80240069. Microsoft announced a fix for this issue, but a new problem has emerged.
Latest Windows 11 update causes failures
According to the latest information, the KB5063878 update triggers storage errors that cause disks to become invisible and related SMART technology data to be unreadable by the operating system.

This issue occurs during intensive write operations on certain NVMe SSDs and HDDs, particularly during large file transfers approaching 50 GB, when controller utilization exceeds 60%, and when the system is under heavy write control.
This issue, believed to be caused by a malfunction in the drive cache subsystem, is reportedly temporarily resolved after a system restart, but the underlying error persists. The affected drives include models such as the Corsair Force MP600, Phison PS5012-E12, SanDisk Extreme Pro M.2 NVMe, Fikwot FN955, and Kioxia Exceria Plus G4 1 TB. Users are being warned not to install this update to avoid problems with their drives.
This has caused significant frustration among users. The possibility that a security update could threaten data integrity and cause hardware failures is causing concern in the tech world.
Social media platforms and tech forums have been flooded with reports from users experiencing the same issues. This is a continuation of the growing number of complaints about frequent problems with Windows updates. Users are expecting Microsoft to quickly address this critical bug and provide a permanent solution.
