Netflix is adding another international series to its roster. The first trailer for the new Japanese series “Last Samurai Standing” has been released. The series’ plot brings to mind the popular Korean series “Squid Game.” Both series tell the story of a group of individuals competing to the death for a large cash prize.

The series is based on Shogo Imamura’s novel “Ikusagami.” The story is set in the late 19th century during the Meiji period in Japan. “Last Samurai Standing” follows the journey of Shujiro Saga, who enters a deadly tournament to save his desperate family. To win the massive 100 billion yen prize, Saga must defeat 291 warriors.
This ambitious Japanese Netflix series brings the concept of deadly combat, similar to “Squid Game,” to the historical world of samurai. The intriguingly compelling “Last Samurai Standing” will premiere on Netflix on November 13th.
This series combines historical drama and thriller genres to offer viewers a unique experience. Following the international success of “Squid Game,” the producers aim to adapt a similar format to appeal in diverse cultural and historical contexts.
The trailer also showcased the series’ visual quality and atmosphere. Striking fight scenes, detailed costumes, and locations reflecting the Japan of the period demonstrate the series’ cinematic prowess.
This new international Netflix project promises to captivate both samurai film enthusiasts and thriller and survival series enthusiasts. What are your thoughts on this film? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
