The 2010 film The Social Network shed light on both Mark Zuckerberg’s personal rise and the power dynamics behind the scenes of Silicon Valley while telling the story of Facebook’s founding. After 15 years, this cult film is back with a sequel. The dark events of Facebook’s growth process will be at the center of the new film, The Social Network Part II.
The Social Network 2 is coming to us
Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the script of the first film and determined the spirit of the production, is not content with just writing this time. Sorkin is also taking on the directorship of The Social Network Part II. Thus, he will be appearing before the audience with his fourth feature film in his directing career, which he started with Molly’s Game in 2017. David Fincher is not involved in the project.

The basis of the new film is the “The Facebook Files” series of articles signed by Jeff Horowitz. These documents contain comprehensive information about the internal workings of Facebook and many decisions that are hidden from the public.
Leaked internal documents and employee statements revealed that the company was aware of the negative impact the platform had on social structures, but did not care about these effects. The film will tell the behind-the-scenes story of these facts.
On the other hand, it is expected that the Cambridge Analytica scandal, one of Facebook’s most controversial periods, will be included in the story. This incident, which broke out in 2018, caused a huge backlash worldwide due to the unauthorized use of millions of Facebook users’ data for political purposes.
The Social Network Part II will also be a direct sequel to the first film. Jesse Eisenberg is likely to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg. However, the cast has not yet been officially announced. Production is expected to begin in the fall of 2025.
