The action-sci-fi movie Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, topped the charts on Netflix. However, it also became an agenda on social media with mostly negative reviews from critics and viewers. So how did the movie Atlas get to the first place?
Netflix received great criticism for Atlas
Directed by Brad Peyton, Atlas stars Jennifer Lopez as a warrior working to prevent technology from falling into the wrong hands. The movie, which looks like a mix of Terminator and Neon Genesis Evangelion, has been widely criticized for its cheap-looking effects and simplistic storyline.
Released on May 24th on Netflix, the movie received low scores in a short time. Accordingly, it scored only 19 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. This seems to be Lopez’s worst movie since 2003’s Gigli.
Despite the bad reviews, Netflix seems to have achieved the success it wanted. Atlas, which ranked first in the movie list, was watched 56 million hours and received more than 28 million views. The main cast includes Simu Liu, Lana Parrilla and Mark Strong.
Last week’s most watched Netflix movies were as follows:
- Atlas
- Thelma the Unicorn
- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
- Mother of the Bride
- Disturbia
- Sing 2
- Ice Age: Collision Course
- A Simple Favor
- Madame Web
- Security
