China launches investigation for Google

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced that it is preparing to launch an investigation into Google for violating the country’s competition laws. Although the US technology giant stopped internet and search services in China in 2010, it continues to offer Chinese companies the opportunity to advertise on Google platforms abroad.

China will impose an additional customs duty of 15 percent on coal and liquefied natural gas imported from the US and 10 percent on oil, agricultural machinery and certain automobiles from 10 February. The launch of an investigation against Google following this decision is interpreted as the competition between the two countries is not only limited to trade but also reflected in the field of technology. So how much punishment can the US company get from this investigation?

Julian Evans-Pritchard of Capital Economics stated that the investigation could be closed without any penalty. Of course, this is not certain. We will see what punishment will be given when the investigation is over.
