The Witcher, once one of Netflix’s most popular series, has seen its newly released fourth season far below expectations. While particularly notable for its success in its first two seasons, the series has seen a decline that began in Season 3, further deepening in Season 4. Data released directly by Netflix clearly demonstrates the severity of the situation.
The Witcher Falls Below Expectations
According to official figures shared by the company, The Witcher’s fourth season attracted only 7.4 million views in its first week of release. This figure is less than half of the first-week viewing figures of the previous season, Season 3.

The Witcher’s third season reached 15.2 million views in its first week. Compared to the performance of the first two seasons, the loss in viewership is even more significant. This figure suggests that the series has lost a significant portion of its audience.
It’s not surprising that The Witcher experienced such a significant decline. Starting with season two, the series’ story gradually diverged from the book series and popular video games it was adapted from. Furthermore, Henry Cavill’s role as the main character, Geralt, began to fade into the background.
As a result of these controversial decisions, Cavill left the series after season three. Liam Hemsworth took over as Geralt in season four, further diminishing the character’s on-screen presence. Both the departure of a prominent actor like Cavill and the drastic changes to the script were key factors in the series’ decline.
The series had received a fifth season renewal from Netflix before season four aired. The statement stated that The Witcher would conclude with season five. Following the weak performance of season four, the streaming giant is not expected to reverse its decision. Barring any major surprises, The Witcher will conclude its story with season five.
