Apple will not be able to implement the expected RAM increase in the iPhone 17 series. Due to the restrictions in the company’s supply chain and increasing production costs, the implementation of the 12 GB RAM increase to all models has been postponed to the iPhone 18 series.
There will be no RAM increase in the iPhone 17 series
According to the information shared by Ming-Chi Kuo, the entire iPhone 18 series will be released with 12 GB RAM. Initially, the RAM increase was planned to be made with the iPhone 17 series. However, due to production problems; Only the upper versions of the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will have 12 GB RAM.

The basic iPhone 17 model will use 8 GB RAM. This change is seen as directly related to Apple’s cost management strategies. According to analysts, the transition from 8 GB to 12 GB increases the average component cost by up to 50%.
The situation will be different in the iPhone 18 series. Apple is expected to make more affordable supply agreements with memory manufacturers and RAM prices to decrease by 2026. This will allow the entire iPhone 18 series to use 12 GB of RAM.
The memory increase provides significant improvements, especially in areas such as multitasking performance, higher stability in games, and on-device artificial intelligence operations. Although this step is late for Apple, the performance bar will be raised in the next generation of devices.
