The first Ne Zha film was released in 2019 and became China’s largest animated production with a gross of $ 699 million. Other prominent productions during the holiday period include the comedy-mystery Detective Chinatown 1900 ($ 253.1 million), the fantasy film Creation of the Gods ($ 124.3 million) and the family film Boonie Bears: Future Reborn ($57.9 million).
In 2024, annual ticket revenues fell 25 percent to $5.8 billion, raising concerns about the future of movie theatres. IMAX has its share of this success. The company, which sold $ 38.1 million in the first five days, has already surpassed its record of $ 34 million set in 2023.
