Gaming platform Roblox is taking a new step to lift its access ban in Turkey. The platform, which has been blocked in Turkey since August 7, 2024, due to child abuse cases, is introducing a system that verifies users’ ages using selfies. The new system will restrict on-platform communication for users under 18.
Roblox is making a significant move
Until now, Roblox implemented security measures based on users’ age declarations. However, this method could be circumvented by some users entering their age incorrectly. The platform now aims to overcome this issue with its new AI-powered system.

By the end of the year, an age prediction system will be implemented on all Roblox accounts using voice and text communication. This system will ask users to take a selfie, and the AI will use the selfie to estimate their age.
Voice and text communication will be automatically disabled for users estimated to be under 18. If the system incorrectly guesses your age, users can remove this restriction by additionally verifying their age with their Turkish ID.
This new Roblox system is seen as the most significant step toward lifting the ban in Turkey. All users on the platform will now be required to upload selfies. Additionally, games will be categorized with age ratings according to PEGI standards. With this move, children will only be able to play games but will not be able to communicate with other users via text or voice.
Roblox has faced lawsuits in Turkey and other countries due to allegations of child abuse. This new security feature, introduced by the platform yesterday, stands out as a significant development in protecting children online.
