Samsung is also introducing significant software innovations with its new generation of smartwatches. The company has introduced a new feature called “Battery Saver” with the One UI 8 Watch interface. This feature is initially available on the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025), but will soon be available on older models.
Galaxy Watch 8 features new battery health feature
The new battery protection system aims to maintain long-term battery health by charging the watch’s battery to a maximum of 90%. When the battery level drops to 85%, the watch recharges to 90%. This cycle prevents lithium batteries from being exposed to high voltage for extended periods, extending battery life.

Users can activate this feature in two ways: Battery Saver mode can be enabled via the Settings > Battery menu on the watch itself, or via the Watch Settings > Battery section in the Galaxy Wearable app installed on the smartphone.
The One UI 8 Watch also includes a new function called “Auto Turn On.” When this option is enabled, a fully discharged Galaxy Watch will automatically turn on when plugged in. This small but practical update makes the device’s user experience smoother.
Currently, One UI 8 is only available for the latest three Watch models. However, it has been confirmed that the update will also be available for previous-generation Galaxy Watch models, particularly the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Classic. In line with Samsung’s software schedule, battery protection and other new features will be made available to all users as these models transition to One UI 8.
