Concord, which was expected to bring new life to hero-shooter games on PS and PC by Sony, is about to fade away without even breathing new life into itself. The game, which caused great disappointment with its low concurrent player numbers, also saw dismal sales figures. Here are the details…
Concord Couldn’t Even Sell 50,000 Copies
Concord, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and the first project from the U.S.-based Firewalk Studios, has made a name for itself as a flop in the gaming world. Released on August 23, 2024, this hero-shooter game has been a major disappointment since its launch. Not only were the sales low, but the number of active players was also significantly underwhelming.
In terms of sales, Concord was a huge letdown. According to a comprehensive report from IGN, the game sold around 25,000 copies in its first week.
As a first-party game sold on both PC and PS, these numbers clearly show that Sony has not seen a return on its significant investment. Despite an eight-year development process, the failure of Concord may lead Sony to rethink its decisions regarding live-service games.
Several factors contributed to Concord’s failure, with the main one being its pricing strategy. While Concord launched at a price of $40, competitors like Overwatch 2, Fortnite, and Apex Legends are free-to-play. Additionally, the game’s character design and lack of effective marketing played a major role in its downfall.
