Meta’s Threads app, a competitor to X, continues to see a growing user base. Reports from earlier this month revealed that the platform has 275 million monthly active users. Recent developments shed light on the number of new users who have joined in the past two weeks.
Threads Gains 15 Million New Users in Two Weeks
Meta’s Threads platform has experienced significant growth, adding 15 million new users in the last two weeks alone. According to Adam Mosseri, the head of Threads and Instagram, the social media app has been attracting over one million new users daily during this period.
The growth isn’t limited to just these numbers. Threads has seen particularly strong interest in countries like the US, Brazil, and India. Specifically, the platform recorded 4.8 million downloads on iOS and 8.2 million downloads on Android during this time.
X (Twitter) has been struggling following Elon Musk’s recent controversial decisions. Reports highlight the challenges the platform faces. Despite this, X still leads its competitors with 36.7 million daily active users, far ahead of Threads and others like Bluesky.
Meanwhile, Threads is expected to start introducing ads in January as a new revenue stream. Some X users, especially during the US election season, have reportedly shifted to alternatives like Threads and Bluesky. Nevertheless, X remains a dominant player despite the turbulence.
Threads’ user growth is expected to continue, especially as more X users seek alternatives due to dissatisfaction with Elon Musk’s decisions. The recent surge in Threads users could play a decisive role in shaping the platform’s trajectory.
