Meta’s X rival app Threads continues to grow by reaching 275 million monthly active users. This figure is very close to Twitter’s peak user count of 330 million before Elon Musk’s acquisition. However, Threads’ activity status is controversial.
Threads user count reaches 275 million monthly
According to some observations, Threads does not feel as lively as Twitter did during its most active periods in the late 2010s. Frequent Threads users think that despite the growth of the application in the last year, it does not have the liveliness of Twitter.
According to the information shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Threads doubled its user count from 150 million in April with an 83 percent growth rate in six months. However, the atmosphere and interaction of the application do not reflect the almost doubling of the number of users.
Last year, Zuckerberg stated that Threads had the potential to reach more than a billion users. In the latest earnings call, Meta CEO said the platform is on a good growth trajectory and that they are seeing deeper engagement.
A significant portion of the growth has come from Asia, particularly countries like Japan and Taiwan. Its tight integration with Instagram has also led many users to join the platform without understanding Threads’ separate identity.
The platform’s rapid expansion is outpacing Twitter’s past growth. However, its functionality seems to lag behind the Twitter experience. Zuckerberg added that they are improving the content recommendation system to keep users on the platform longer.
