TikTok, which has over a billion users, is one of the most popular social media platforms around the world. However, the social media platform now faces a banning issue in the US. While the platform has been accused by the US government for some time due to its Chinese origins, TikTok is now in a worse situation in the US. Government devices can’t have TikTok installed in the US anymore
Even though TikTok is such a popular application, it faces accusations about security issues. Some reports by Reuters announced that the US House of Representatives administration confirmed on Tuesday that it has banned TikTok from US government devices. It means that no one can now install and use TikTok on government devices.
While the House’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) says, “high risk due to a number of security issues” as the reason to ban TikTok. They also warn that the application must be removed from devices that currently have the platform. TikTok’s parent company ByteDance announced, “ByteDance also committed to making changes that will “fully safeguard user data and U.S. national security interests.” The company said that it is in the process of finalizing “new advanced data security controls” in partnership with Oracle.”
The company also added, “ByteDance migrated US user data to Oracle servers last month, but the company still sues data centers in the US and Singapore for backups. Once this agreement is finalized, TIkTok says it will ‘delete U.S. users’ protected data from our own systems and fully pivot to Oracle cloud servers located in the U.S.”
