One of the world’s largest short video sharing platforms, TikTok, is making a significant change. With this alteration, TikTok, which is thought to be striving to compete with YouTube, is once again extending its video length limit. Here are the details…
TikTok’s maximum video length is extending again!
Initially, TikTok emerged as a platform where users could only upload 15-second videos. Later, this duration was increased to 60 seconds. Last year, this time was extended to 3 minutes and then up to 10 minutes, aiming for users to spend more time on the platform. Now, it seems that this time is increasing once again.
TikTok has confirmed tests to extend the maximum video length from 10 minutes to 15 minutes, as noticed by some users. The company stated that these tests were conducted with a limited number of users in certain countries.
It is currently unknown when the extension of video lengths will be available to all users. However, speculations indicate that this change will take place in the coming weeks. So, for now, it seems there is nothing to do but wait.
This change directly pits TikTok against YouTube. With this alteration, the company may aim to attract content creators who want to share long videos. Whether this goal will be successfully achieved remains to be seen soon.
Additionally, according to a recent report, the Utah State Government in the US is suing TikTok. The reason for this lawsuit is claimed to be the app causing harm by enabling children to spend too much time on it. There was once a consideration of banning TikTok in the US due to security concerns. While this matter did not gain much traction in the country’s agenda, currently, there are four states, including Utah, aiming for it.
