The world’s richest individuals list continues to see eventful days. The iconic founders of massive companies seem to be in a race against each other. Once holding the top spot, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been steadily falling.
Mark Zuckerberg rises to second place
While Elon Musk has held the title of the world’s richest person in recent months, there’s intense competition just below. A few months ago, Jeff Bezos lost his second-place ranking to Oracle founder Larry Ellison.
Shortly after, Bezos regained second place, but now he faces a new challenge from a familiar name. According to Bloomberg’s updated billionaire list, Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has overtaken Bezos and risen to second place.
This surge has been fueled by a significant rise in shares of Meta, the parent company of these platforms. Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) has become the second-best performing stock of the “Magnificent 7” this year, just behind AI giant Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA).
Although Amazon has seen a roughly 20% gain since the beginning of 2024, this performance wasn’t enough for Bezos to maintain his spot. Meanwhile, Meta, which had experienced a decline after its rebranding, has shown a remarkable 64% growth since the start of this year.
