Turkey Reports Rapid Growth in Artificial Intelligence Usage in 2026

TÜİK 2026 report reveals a massive surge in artificial intelligence usage across Turkey, with individual adoption reaching 37.6% and corporate integration doubling.

According to the latest data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) in 2026, the adoption of artificial intelligence tools across Turkey has experienced a significant surge compared to previous years. The report highlights that both individual citizens and corporate entities are increasingly integrating generative AI platforms—such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude—into their daily routines and business operations. This rapid digital transformation has caused the overall utilization rate of artificial intelligence to nearly double within a single year, marking a pivotal shift in how technology is perceived and applied throughout the nation.

    • Individual usage of generative artificial intelligence climbed to 37.6 percent in 2026 from 19.2 percent in the previous year.
    • Corporate adoption of artificial intelligence technologies among enterprises increased to 14 percent during the same period.
    • The telecommunications and information technology sectors lead industry integration with a usage rate of 63.7 percent.
    • Lack of specialized personnel remains the primary barrier preventing businesses from adopting artificial intelligence solutions.

Individual Usage Rates Show Significant Demographic Variance

The 2026 Household Information Technology Usage Survey reveals that demographic factors significantly influence the adoption of these new tools. Younger generations are leading the trend, with 64.9 percent of individuals aged 16 to 24 utilizing AI, whereas only 5.1 percent of the 65-74 age group engages with these platforms.

Education levels further define the digital divide, as higher education graduates report a 62.7 percent usage rate compared to just 8.5 percent among primary school graduates. Interestingly, gender-based adoption shows minimal disparity, with 38.1 percent of women and 37.2 percent of men reporting active use of generative AI tools. While a majority of non-users claim a lack of necessity for these technologies, approximately 12.4 percent remain unaware of their existence.

Corporate Sectors Accelerate Their Digital Integration

The business landscape has mirrored these individual trends, as the percentage of enterprises utilizing artificial intelligence rose from 7.5 percent in 2025 to 14 percent in 2026. The telecommunications and IT sectors dominate this landscape, followed closely by the publishing and content creation industries, which report a 57.1 percent adoption rate.

Companies primarily leverage these technologies to optimize sales and marketing processes, accounting for 51 percent of enterprise applications, while 46.3 percent of firms utilize them for research and development. Regarding implementation, 67.8 percent of businesses rely on open-source software to access advanced AI capabilities.

Technical Expertise Barriers Hinder Further Adoption

Despite the upward trajectory, businesses continue to face substantial hurdles that prevent universal adoption. The most prominent challenge, cited by 72.3 percent of non-adopting firms, is the critical shortage of qualified personnel capable of managing complex AI systems. Furthermore, companies express concerns regarding legal uncertainties, data security risks, and the high initial costs associated with infrastructure development. Despite these obstacles, approximately 8.3 percent of enterprises have finalized plans to integrate these technologies into their workflows in the near future.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the economic and social landscape of Turkey, we invite our readers to share their thoughts on whether these tools will fundamentally redefine our professional responsibilities in the coming years.
