TAYFUN, Turkey’s longest-range ballistic missile, was showcased for the first time at a defense fair. The short-range ballistic missile, developed by Roketsan, was featured at the IDEF 2025 International Defense Industry Fair. Held at the Istanbul Expo Center from July 22-27, the event distinguished itself as one of the most powerful systems representing Turkey’s ballistic missile capabilities.

Ballistic missiles are categorized according to international classifications. Those with a range of up to 300 kilometers are classified as “tactical ballistic missiles,” while systems between 300 and 1,000 kilometers are classified as “short-range ballistic missiles.” TAYFUN represents a first in its class as Turkey’s first domestically produced missile with this range.
The missile’s engine, fuel, guidance system, and other critical subcomponents were domestically developed by Roketsan. TAYFUN’s achievement of this level, using domestic engineering and technology, has been recognized as a significant step toward Turkey’s goal of independence in missile technology.
The system’s test launches are ongoing. In the latest launch from Rize-Artvin Airport in February, the missile successfully hit a target at sea. This launch was recorded as TAYFUN’s third test. The resulting accuracy and stability data were among the key indicators confirming the system’s operational effectiveness.
TAYFUN can reach hypersonic speeds, increasing the missile’s ability to evade air defense systems before reaching its target. High-precision technologies in the guidance system minimize the environmental impact of an attack on the target.
Furthermore, it boasts a high level of resistance to global positioning system (GPS) jamming, enabling it to operate in electronic warfare environments. Capable of operating day and night and in various weather conditions, the system’s ability to quickly prepare for launch provides operational flexibility.
Developed by Roketsan, TAYFUN has become the most powerful ballistic missile system ever produced in Turkey in terms of range and performance. The new system that will follow TAYFUN is known as CENK. The company is preparing to further advance its ballistic missile capabilities with these new projects.
The TAYFUN Missile showcased at IDEF 2025 is not only a product launch but also a clear demonstration of Turkey’s domestic missile technology capabilities.
