The first phase of the Uygar Wind Power Plant (WPP), constructed at the intersection of Balıkesir, İzmir, and Manisa provinces, has begun operations. The project, implemented by Enerjisa Üretim, marks the company’s 30th power plant.
Uygar Wind Power Plant Under Construction
Once all phases are complete, the Uygar WPP will be Turkey’s second-largest wind power plant, boasting an installed capacity of 250 megawatts (MW) and an annual production volume of 1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh).

At full capacity, the plant will generate enough energy to meet the annual electricity needs of 500,000 households. This production is expected to prevent approximately 600,000 tons of carbon emissions. The project is a key component of efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in Turkey’s electricity generation.
The Uygar WPP is strategically important not only for its energy production capacity but also for its contribution to domestic technology and industry. Key components of the turbines used in the power plant, such as the tower, blades, and generators, were manufactured in Turkey. Enerjisa Üretim CEO İhsan Erbil Bayçöl emphasized the widespread implementation of domestic production in this project.
The Uygar Wind Power Plant, part of a $2.5 billion investment package, stands out not only for its environmental impact but also for its contribution to regional development and employment. Upon completion, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to Turkey’s installed wind capacity.
In addition to the Uygar Wind Power Plant, Enerjisa Üretim is continuing its expansion in wind energy with the YEKA Wind Power Plant-2024 tenders. The company won 1,200 MW of new capacity in these tenders. The 410 MW Edirne Wind Power Plant and the 340 MW Balkaya Wind Power Plant projects within this portfolio will create a total of 750 MW of additional capacity.
Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2027. Including the Uygar Wind Power Plant, the company’s total investment in this area has reached 1,750 MW. This growth translates to a contribution of approximately 15 percent to Turkey’s total installed wind energy capacity.
Enerjisa Üretim currently has approximately 4,000 MW of installed capacity and 30 operating power plants. With this infrastructure, the company meets approximately 4 to 5 percent of Turkey’s total electricity needs. This percentage is expected to increase with the commissioning of the remaining phases of the Uygar WPP.
