Currently, there are plenty of live streaming platforms in the market, but of course, the most well-known, reliable, and popular one is Twitch, which initially entered our lives as Justin.Tv. Up until now, if you violated a streamer’s rules on Twitch, you could get banned, but you could still watch their streams. This is changing.
From now on, if you get banned on Twitch, you won’t be able to watch the stream either!
Twitch is preparing to introduce a new feature that will make a streamer’s streams unviewable when they ban a user. Currently, only a handful of streamers can use this feature for testing purposes, but it will be available to everyone in September.
The news came to light through a post on the Twitter (X) account of Twitch streamer Lowco. In Lowco’s post, it says, “BIG TWITCH UPDATE: If you block or ban someone, they won’t be able to watch your stream anymore!” Below that, there’s a ban screen with the option ‘Prevent banned users from watching streams.’
In the same announcement, there is more information about the feature. Streamers will have the option to enable or disable this feature. If it’s enabled, it will work immediately. So, if you ban someone in the middle of a stream, they will be immediately removed from the stream, and anyone you’ve previously banned won’t be able to join the streams.
However, banned users won’t be completely barred from entering the channel. They will still be able to access and watch live stream replays or clips from the banned channels. They will only be removed from the live part.
It’s worth noting that this doesn’t ban a user’s IP address, so if you’ve been banned, you can still access the stream with another account. Twitch’s Senior Product Manager, Trevor Fisher, mentioned in a Twitch patch notes video released on August 16, 2023:
“We’ve done a few rounds of feedback with people, and in general, we heard from a lot of streamers that even if it only prevents people from watching on the banned account, it’s still something they wanted.”
In conclusion, if you want to continue being present in a streamer’s broadcasts, you’ll have to be more careful in the chat section from now on. Streamers now have the option to prevent you from watching their streams as well. What do you think about this? Please remember to share your thoughts in the comments.
