Since being acquired by renowned entrepreneur Elon Musk, Twitter has been officially sinking into a decline. The company, facing an economic crisis after the acquisition, had to shut down some of its offices. Additionally, many employees left the company due to dissatisfaction with the revised working conditions. Moreover, certain features like the blue tick verification have become paid services.
Recently, Twitter infuriated its users with the introduction of tweet viewing restrictions. While various claims were made regarding this issue, Twitter has now revealed the reason behind this limitation. Here are the details…
Why did Twitter introduce restrictions on tweet viewing?
Elon Musk, the former CEO of Twitter and current Chairman of the Board, announced a limitation a few days ago, stating that verified users would be able to read 8,000 tweets per day, while unverified accounts would be limited to 800 tweets.
Numerous speculations were made about the reason behind this restriction. Some even speculated that Twitter resorted to cost-cutting measures because it failed to pay for the Google Cloud service it used for data hosting. However, today the company made an announcement.
In an official statement published on its website, Twitter revealed that the limitation was implemented to identify and remove spam and bot accounts. The company stated that this limitation would never be lifted and emphasized their efforts to make the platform the best it can be.
The Twitter tweet reading restrictions are as follows:
- Verified (blue tick) accounts will be limited to reading 6,000 tweets per day.
- Unverified accounts will be able to read 600 tweets per day.
- New unverified accounts will be able to read 300 tweets per day.
