Twitter (X), advancing towards becoming a Super App, will make some features previously available only to premium subscribers accessible to everyone. According to the announced information, Twitter (X) will be offering the voice and video calling feature to standard users as well.
Twitter (X) is releasing the voice and video calling feature to everyone
X Premium (formerly known as Twitter Blue) is described as a subscription system that offers users additional features such as editing posts, uploading longer videos, and text formatting. Additionally, premium subscribers have more access with their posts and see fewer advertisements.
X recently introduced a new feature allowing users to make and receive voice and video calls, similar to applications like FaceTime and WhatsApp. This feature, which has been limited to premium subscribers for some time, is now being made available to more users.
According to information shared by X engineer Enrique Barragan, X has started gradually rolling out the voice and video calling feature to those who are not subscribed to X Premium. This feature is directly integrated into the message inbox and operates similarly to other apps like WhatsApp and Instagram that support calls.
When this feature was announced, it sparked some debate due to concerns from users about receiving calls from unknown individuals. However, users have the ability to control who can call them and can even disable the calling feature if desired.
To change the settings for voice and video calls within the app, you can follow these steps:
- Open the X app.
- Click on your profile picture at the top.
- Click on Settings and Privacy.
- Select Privacy and Security.
- Go to the Direct Messages option.
- You can change your preferences for voice and video calls.
You can choose to receive calls from contacts in your address book, accounts you follow, or only verified users. If you want to completely disable calls on X, simply turn off the “Enable voice and video calls” option. Note that when you do this, nobody will be able to call you through the X app.
