Ubisoft has announced that online services for 10 of its legacy games will cease as of January 25, 2024. These games will no longer be accessible online as advancing technology renders servers obsolete.

The decision to shut down these games is attributed to several factors, including the incompatibility of older games with modern server infrastructures. Also contributing to the decision are server maintenance costs, declining active player numbers and security concerns.
It is worth noting that these games are older versions, so players may have already experienced their online features to a satisfactory extent. However, for those who want to make the most of the remaining online services, there is a window of opportunity until January 25, 2024.

Ubisoft’s move is indicative of an industry-wide trend of discontinuing online services for aging games that require heavily active servers for their online components.
The Harry Potter series still manages to make a name for itself all over the world. However, the same is not true for Fantastic Beasts.
Players who still value these games have a short window to take advantage of the remaining online functionality before it becomes unavailable. As the industry evolves, it’s very likely that we’ll see more games face similar decommissioning in the future.
