Ubisoft has always been a company that likes to venture into new areas alongside its already established concepts. In this context, the developer has developed a new first-person multiplayer shooter to rival Call of Duty. The free-to-play game called XDefiant has received some bad news.
XDefiant release date delayed
Mark Rubin, producer of XDefiant, pulls back the curtain on what goes into the process of getting a game to market and explains exactly where XDefiant fits in.
The blog goes into some detail about the submission process required for games to appear on platforms like PlayStation or Xbox, and explains how the release process can be a painful one. Simply put, developers need to send a copy of their game to parties like Xbox and Sony so that their teams can check that the game works properly platform-wise.
Once a game gets the green light from this process, it usually takes a week or two before it’s ready for release. While XDefiant went through this process at the end of July, it initially failed to pass compatibility.
Now Ubisoft is ready to resubmit the game, leaving two possible outcomes. If the game passes without any problems, XDefiant could be released in mid to late September.
Rubin explains that most games leave plenty of wiggle room to allow for this process when deciding on a release date, but he doesn’t want to go that route with XDefiant.
The game is being developed by executive producer Mark Rubin, best known for his work on the CoD series. XDefiant will launch for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 and will offer cross-platform support.
