Ubisoft believes that the new Assassin’s Creed game Shadows will mark a surprising turn in the series. The developer aims to return the series, which has recently shifted to action-oriented gameplay, to its roots where stealth is at the forefront. Looking at the statements made, the inspiration for this comeback will again be Ubisoft’s stealth game Splinter Cell series.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will detail stealth elements
In the latest blog post, Shadows’ stealth-orientated gameplay mechanics were discussed. Ubisoft shared some new features that will excite players. Foremost among these will be the new ‘light visibility’ meter, which allows you to become completely invisible when hiding in the dark of night.
This feature was a staple of Splinter Cell, and its inclusion in Shadows signals a return to pure stealth. The company also touched on Naoe’s ability to create dark areas by extinguishing lanterns with his thrown shuriken.
This feature will give players more strategic options to take down enemies undetected. Naoe will also be able to silently neutralise enemies by grabbing and dragging them without going into long animations.
‘For the first time in the Assassin’s Creed series, hiding in the shadows will make you completely invisible to enemies,’ Ubisoft said in a statement. This will apply both indoors and outdoors and represents a significant departure from the series’ previous stealth approach.’
For those who have been waiting for the series to return to its stealth-based roots for a long time, this news is quite pleasing. The prominence of role-playing elements in recent games such as Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla had upset those who thought that the series had forgotten its essence.
