Astro Bot Rescue Mission, a PlayStation 5 exclusive, has surpassed sales expectations for new 3D platformers a month after its release. Analysts say the game’s sales performance is one of the strongest for its genre in the past decade.
Astro Bot tops expectations
The analyst said that based on physical and digital sales data, Astro Bot sales were 34 percent higher than Sonic Frontiers and 52 percent higher than Crash Bandicoot 4. Although he wouldn’t share exact figures due to data privacy agreements, he said that Astro Bot outperformed almost every new 3D platformer in the past 10 years, with the exception of the Super Mario games.
This statement means that the PS5 exclusive is among the best-selling and most popular 3D platformers ever in Europe. Of course, the game’s success isn’t limited to Europe. Research firm Circana said that Astro Bot was the second-best-selling game in the US in terms of physical and digital sales during its launch week, behind NBA 2K25.
In addition, the Astro Bot-themed DualSense controller became the best-selling accessory that same week. Astro Bot, which received critical acclaim and received a score of 94 on Metacritic, has also attracted great interest from those new to the 3D platform genre.
The upcoming free DLC and the development team Team Asobi show that the series has long-term potential.
