Epic Games has announced the new version of its game engine Unreal Engine, version 5.6. The new update brings serious performance improvements and visual quality improvements compared to its predecessor Unreal Engine 5.4. In the tests, speed increases of up to 30 percent were achieved. The performance difference became more noticeable, especially in the tests conducted at low resolutions.
Unreal Engine 5.6 is on the agenda with its performance
The tests were conducted on a Paris-themed technical demo using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card and an Intel Core i7-14700F processor. Unreal Engine versions 5.4 and 5.6 were compared at 1440p and 4K resolutions, in both moving and stationary scenes.

In the first test, Unreal Engine 5.6 was found to be 22 percent faster. In the second test conducted at 720p resolution, this difference increased to 30 percent. In the other three fixed-scene tests, performance increases ranging from 15 to 22 percent were recorded.
Not only speed, but also a decrease in the load on the processor was observed. The average CPU usage on the 16-thread Intel Core i7-14700F processor decreased by 17 percent. This revealed that Unreal Engine 5.6 not only increased graphics performance but also increased resource usage efficiency throughout the system.
Significant improvements are also noticeable on the visual side. The new version offers more realistic lighting and shading for objects such as tables and chairs in interior spaces. While advanced ambient lighting gives scenes a photorealistic atmosphere, it is stated that a more artificial appearance is created in these areas in Unreal Engine 5.4.
Currently, the number of games actively using Unreal Engine 5.6 is limited. Fortnite was the first game to switch to the new version. The transition process has not yet started for other productions.
