US Food and Drug Administration: Apple Watches are an over-the-counter device for assessing sleep apnea risk
The US Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has given the green light to Apple’s application for a sleep apnea detection feature. In this way, the Apple Watch Series 9 introduced last year, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 introduced last year and the Apple Watch Series 10 introduced in early September this year were registered in the FDA’s database as devices with sleep apnea detection. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) describes Apple Watches as an over-the-counter device for assessing the risk of sleep apnea.
Apple announced sleep apnea detection coming to Apple Watches at last week’s It’s Glowtime event to unveil new products. The feature helps identify the user’s inhales and exhales and pauses during sleep. According to the company, if left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to hypertension, type 2 diabetes and heart disease in more than a billion people worldwide. If you want to see the information recorded during your sleep, all detailed information is saved in the Respiratory Disorders section of the Health app.
During recording, your Apple Watch also receives information from the accelerometers for complete information. The health app also shares all the data with you every 30 days. If you have a serious health condition, it advises you to consult a doctor. The FDA gives Apple approval for the second health feature in September. Earlier this week, the FDA announced that Apple’s AirPods Pro 2nd generation wireless headphones were added to the list of over-the-counter hearing aids.
