Tension between the Us and Russia has led to various types of wars over the years. Cold and economic warfare are just two examples of these conflicts. Unfortunately, many countries have suffered as a result of these processes. In the most recent incident, a US aircraft was downed in the Black Sea. Here are the details…
US Drone Shot Down by Russian Fighters in the Black Sea
According to a statement released by the Pentagon, a US MQ-9 UAV was harassed by two Russian Su-27s. One of the Su-27s pursuing the MQ-9 closely later collided with the drone, causing it to crash into international waters.
The Russian Su-27 fighter jet did not maintain the necessary distance and made contact with the drone’s propeller, causing the UAV’s engine to fail. As a result, the US decided to crash the MQ-9 Reaper into the Black Sea.
It is unclear whether the Russian planes made contact intentionally or accidentally, and the Russian Ministry of Defense has yet to issue a statement. In the coming hours, efforts will be made to recover the UAV from the sea. Both the US and Russian navies will continue to hold each other at radar range for a while longer. While accidental firing is unlikely, close-range shots may be made for intimidation purposes.
If the UAV crashed not in international waters but in Russian territory, Russia may attempt to recover the drone and examine its technology. Regardless of the outcome, tensions will continue to escalate in the coming days.
