US Consumer Product Safety Commission members call for investigation: “Shein and Temu feature deadly baby products”

After a meeting held recently, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a statement on its website, calling on the commission and the government to take action regarding foreign e-commerce companies.

CPSC members: “Shein and Temu feature deadly baby products”

The statement prepared by US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) members Peter Feldman and Douglas Dziak highlights a serious issue concerning foreign e-commerce platforms. According to the claim, these platforms offer deadly products for babies and toddlers.

Feldman and Dziak’s statement:

“We call on CPSC staff to evaluate Shein, Temu, and other e-commerce platforms to determine how these foreign companies meet their obligations under the Consumer Product Safety Act by relying on overseas suppliers.

Manufacturers, retailers, importers, and distributors of consumer products fall under the jurisdiction of the CPSC, which is responsible for protecting consumers from products that pose an unreasonable risk of injury. We are aware of recent media reports indicating that deadly products for babies and toddlers are readily available on these platforms.”

Shein and Temu responded
Following the allegations by CPSC members Peter Feldman and Douglas Dziak, the platforms responded. A Shein spokesperson stated that safety is their top priority and that the company sufficiently supports compliance programs.

A Temu spokesperson mentioned that all sellers on their platform are required to meet these criteria and that they are willing to cooperate with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission if necessary. So far, the CPSC has not taken any action.
