Valve: No immediate plans for a new Steam Deck!

Valve’s Steam Deck designers, Lawrence Yang and Yazan Aldehayyat, spoke out in a recent interview, opposing the annual hardware upgrade trend. The team also announced that the Steam Deck will be available for sale in Australia in November and addressed the much-anticipated questions about a new generation console.

Lawrence Yang stated, “We want to make it clear that we are not entering an annual refresh cycle. There is no reason to release a new model every year. It wouldn’t be fair to our customers to offer a new product with only minor improvements in such a short time.”

Yang continued, “Before launching a true second-generation Steam Deck, we aim to achieve a generational leap in processing power without compromising battery life. We are excited to work on this and are hopeful for the future.”

Unlike consoles like Sony’s upcoming PS5 Pro, which offers periodic upgrades, Valve stands out with its user-focused approach. The PS5 Pro, set to launch with a price tag of 700 pounds, contrasts with Valve’s determination not to release a new model until a significant technological advancement is achieved.
