Valve has officially confirmed that it is working on a new multiplayer shooter called Deadlock. The announcement comes after months of leaks and closed testing. Accordingly, the company has quietly launched a new game page on Steam.
Valve makes first announcement for Deadlock
Deadlock is expected to be basically an Overwatch-style game. In other words, it is thought to be a 6v6 shooter where heroes come to the fore. Those who tested the game stated that they controlled different characters in team matches.
The short teaser trailer on Steam featured one of the game’s maps. Accordingly, the map shows a street in the city. A detective-like character watches the pigeons on the street. At the end, other characters are seen in the distance.
Valve stated that Deadlock is still “very early” in the development phase. In this context, it will have an experimental gameplay during the closed test process. Testing will be limited to existing users until the game progresses.
Of course, Valve seems to be accelerating Deadlock’s testing. According to SteamDB data, it has already peaked at over 44,000 concurrent players. Test players were also allowed to openly share their impressions of the game.
No release date has been given yet. But Valve’s confirmation of Deadlock’s production is an indication that it’s committed to completing the project. Of course, while many were expecting Half-Life 3, the new production may have come as a surprise.
