vivo has launched a promotional campaign for its upcoming X Fold5. The phone will be officially announced on July 10 and will offer unprecedented water and dust resistance for foldable phones.
Protection standards that will leave Samsung behind
The X Fold5 surpasses Samsung’s IP4X standard with its IP5X dust resistance. The IP5X certification does not completely prevent dust from entering the device, but it does prevent “dust that is sufficient to interfere with safe operation.” This level provides the highest level of dust protection ever seen in the foldable phone category.

The X Fold5 receives three different certifications for water resistance: IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+. This combination is the first of its kind in the foldable phone market and shows that the device can operate in a variety of water exposure conditions.
The IPX9+ certification is particularly noteworthy. vivo says the X Fold5 can be folded and unfolded 1,000 times in water up to 1 meter deep. This test proves that the device can sustain mechanical movements even underwater.
The IPX9 certification is a standard that no other device in the foldable phone segment has ever received. This certification shows that the device is protected against high-pressure water jets. IPX8 provides protection against immersion in water, while IPX9 tests resistance to water jets.
The X Fold5 stands out not only with its water and dust resistance, but also with its weight. vivo states that the device will be the lightest book-style foldable phone to date. This feature provides a significant advantage in terms of ease of use.
The phone will be offered in green. A part of the device in green is shown in the promotional images and attracts attention with its elegant design.
The new standards set by vivo with the X Fold5 constitute an important turning point in the development of the foldable phone market. Water and dust resistance were seen as one of the biggest weaknesses of this category of devices.
The hinge mechanism and multi-screen structure in foldable phones create more openness compared to traditional phones. The protection levels achieved by the X Fold5 show that these technical challenges have been overcome.
The IPX9+ standard folding test at a depth of 1 meter, 1,000 times, offers a durability level that exceeds real-world usage conditions. This feature allows users to use their devices more safely in water activities.
At the official launch of the X Fold5 on July 10, technical features other than water and dust resistance will also be revealed. It is seen that vivo intends to set a new bar in the foldable phone market with this model.
