Volkswagen has submitted official images and technical specifications of its ambitious new electric SUV, the ID. UNYX 08, to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Designed as the production version of the brand’s ID. EVO concept, this model is also the first product of the partnership signed in 2023 between German manufacturer Volkswagen and Chinese electric vehicle giant Xpeng.

The ID. UNYX 08 features an 800V electrical architecture. The model will be available in two versions: single-motor and dual-motor. The single-motor version produces 230 kW.

The dual-motor version features two electric motors: 140 kW at the front and 230 kW at the rear. Both options use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL. Battery capacity has not yet been disclosed, but the vehicle is expected to offer a range of over 700 kilometers, according to CLTC measurements.
The model’s body design clearly distinguishes itself from Volkswagen’s other global models. At the front, a fully enclosed grille, tapered headlights, and the classic Volkswagen logo stand out.
Black A-pillars create a “floating roof” effect. A dynamic silhouette, concealed door handles, and sporty wheels are visible on the side. At the rear, slim taillights, a red-illuminated VW logo, and the “ID.UNYX” lettering at the bottom are prominent.
Designed as a five-seat electric SUV, this 5,000 mm long, 1,954 mm wide, 1,688 mm high, and with a 3,030 mm wheelbase offer ample interior space.
In terms of technological features, the ID. UNYX 08 is equipped with advanced Level 2++ driver assistance systems. These systems support autonomous driving in the city and on the highway. Software updates can be performed remotely via Over-The-Air (OTA). The vehicle also features an artificial intelligence-supported digital assistant based on a large language model, which aims to provide a natural communication experience while driving.
