Volvo is reintroducing the XC70 model to its product range after a long hiatus. However, this time, the vehicle will be released from its traditional station wagon identity and will be presented in an SUV form and with a plug-in hybrid engine system.
Volvo XC70, with its SUV version
The new XC70, which the company describes as the first plug-in hybrid model with an “extended range”, will be an important step for Volvo’s sustainability goals. It is stated that the vehicle was initially developed for the Chinese market, but it is also possible that it will be offered for sale in the global market.

The most striking feature of the new XC70 is that it offers a range of up to 200 kilometers with electric driving only. However, it is stated that this range is announced according to the Chinese CLTC cycle and may be lower under real-world conditions.
The vehicle is built on Volvo’s Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA). Thanks to this platform, the new XC70 offers an infrastructure equipped with modern technologies such as fast charging support. The vehicle, which carries the classic Volvo identity with its design lines, stands out with the LED headlights called “Thor’s hammer” and the black grille.
At the rear, the C-shaped stop lamps integrated into the glass and the sloping rear window design draw attention. We can say that the new model is positioned between the XC60 and the XC90 in terms of its dimensions.
Volvo emphasized the versatility of the model in the introduction of the XC70; It stated that the vehicle is “ready for all kinds of adventures”. In this respect, the new XC70 brings the spirit of functionality that the original station wagon version has to the SUV segment.
The company will announce the technical details of the XC70 and the exact launch date in the coming days. So what do you think about this vehicle? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
